Instructions for submitting student work for consideration:
  1. Submitted work must be completed by students during the 2025-26 school year.
  2. Submissions Open Monday, March 9th, 2026.
  3. All submissions are due by 11:59PM Thursday April 16th.
Submission Instructions

Step One: A faculty member needs to register your school for BASH.

Step Two: Registered schools will receive a confirmation email with an upload code.

Step Three: Upload submissions to YouTube as an unlisted video or upload to Google Drive.

Step Four: Enter up to five (5) categories by clicking the corresponding "enter" button for each category.

Step Five: Paste link to your submission in the appropriate space and enter registration code when prompted.

Step Six: Look for a confirmation email from awards@broadcastalliance.org to confirm that we have received your submission (email will be sent within 72 hours).

Best Broadcast: Under 5 Minutes

A news brief or update lasting up to five minutes awarded to the school that makes the best use of the shortened time frame to still inform and entertain their audience.

Best Broadcast: 5 to 10 Minutes

Awarded for the best regularly scheduled school news show, announcements, news magazine or talk show that is aired either daily, weekly or monthly. Can be live or edited.

The BMB Morning Announcements Bellmore Merrick Broadcasting (Mepham HS)

Best School News Package

time limit: 5 minutes

Awarded for the best news package created about school life. These stories can recap an event or preview an upcoming event or feature a student, teacher or club by combining interviews, B-Roll, voiceover, natural sound and an optional reporter standup.

Best PSA

The Public Service Announcement piece highlights a current issue in society. PSAs should include a mention of the issue, a statistic to support why it is a societal problem, and a call to action. These can involve actors and live action, video clips, or animation and graphics.

Best Human Interest Package

time limit: 5 minutes

The human interest feature story serves the purpose of engaging the viewers, in addition to informing them about a topic. The subject of a feature story usually focuses good news with an emphasis on lively, entertaining footage and script writing. The video package presents an interesting angle at an event, person, or human-interest piece.

Best Opening Segment

time limit: 1 minute, 30 seconds

Best Opening Segment is the the show's introduction or opener.  An opening segment should highlight the high school, program, and crew.

The Morning Wave (Long Beach HS)

Best Sports Feature

time limit: 5 minutes

Best sports package should contain interviews, b-roll, natural sound, interviews, voiceovers, and optional reporter stand-ups, covering sports, athletes, coaches and other related topics. The story should keep the audience’s attention throughout, delivering a compelling narrative to create a lasting impression.

SYO Vision Road to Redemption (Syosset HS)

Best Live Sports Coverage

time limit: 5 minutes

Awarded for coverage of a live sporting event. Schools should submit a five minute unedited clip from a sporting event streamed or recorded. Judges will consider camera work, announcers, graphics and the overall quality of the broadcast in selecting the winner.

BMB Game of the Week: Girls Basketball Mepham vs Calhoun (Mepham HS)

Best Anchor Team

time limit: 5 minutes

Anchor teams should demonstrate strong delivery, poise, and teamwork on camera. The submission should consist of clips of your anchor team in action from a single broadcast or from a collection of clips across several broadcasts.

EIHS - BASH 25 - Best Anchor Duo (East Islip HS)

Arts, Entertainment & Culture Feature

time limit: 5 minutes

Replacing the "Most Entertaining" category, the Arts, Entertainment & Culture feature story serves the purpose of engaging the viewers, in addition to informing them about the world of the arts. The subject of a feature story will focus on good news from the world of music, theater, art and culture with an emphasis on lively, entertaining footage and script writing. The video package presents an interesting angle at an event, person, or people.

Hurricane Watch (Westhampton Beach HS)

Best Community Feature

time limit: 5 minutes

The best community news category awards intrepid reporters who get off campus and into their communities to tell the stories of the people, places and landmarks in the towns around our schools.  Submissions in this category must showcase communities and the diverse tapestry of people who live in them. The in-depth, human-interest content should deliver a compelling narrative while engaging viewers throughout with the use of interviews, b-roll and natural sound. Reporter standups are optional.

Best Local Multimedia Reporting

time limit: 5 minutes

Awarded to the team of students who localize an issue important to Long Islanders and convey the story on multiple platforms (like broadcast, print, audio, social media), the way Newsday does for Long Island daily through our website, app, newspaper, NewsdayTV, podcasts, social media, mobile/text alerts and more.

Best Local Multimedia Reporting: Westhampton Beach - Broadcast (Westhampton HS)

Best Documentary

time limit: 7 minutes

Submissions in this category can be topic based or can focus on a particular subject (person, place, or thing) that has a compelling story to tell. Documentaries should include elements such as interviews, b-roll, expert opinions, research and statistics. Topics and Subjects can be broader in nature and not limited to the local community.

STN Award

The Student Television Network is a national organization of over 600 schools shaping the next generation of storytellers by empowering their voices through broadcast journalism, film and multimedia education, is partnering with BASH to award two participating schools an annual membership to be presented this year's event.
